The release of the GDDR5X-powered GTX 1060 comes just as online rumours and reports are beginning to suggest that AMD is currently working on on refreshing its mid-range Radeon RX series graphics cards with the Radeon RX 600 series. Along with another rumour that the red team also has a new Radeon RX 590 graphics card in the pipeline.
Specifically, the card’s specs sheet found on the company’s official page shows that the new GTX 1060 retains the exact same specifications. The only difference to the list being the change from GDDR5 to the more powerful GDDR5X frame buffer. For context, the Pascal GPU architecture that is in use with current GTX 1060s is the GP106. Cards that are built using the GDDR5X frame buffer are built upon the more powerful GP104 and GP102 GPU architecture. Prior to this, the only GeForce cards to run on the GP104 architecture is none other than the GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti.
The price of the tweaked GeForce GTX 1060 with GDDR5X memory is currently priced at US$299 (~RM1247). At the time of writing, there is no word from NVIDIA if or when the card will be coming to our shores. (Source: NVIDIA, Hexus, TweakTown)
